About this Session:  This introductory session will provide an overview of the ways that the local, state and federal contexts inform grant funding processes. We will address: 1) What is the current policy landscape in Chicago and how does it affect funding initiatives? 2) What are the priorities and approaches to planning and community development in Chicago and how will they impact an organization and its plans to pursue a federal grant? 3) What are federal funding agencies looking for when reviewing grant applications from local organizations and why?

Deidra SomervilleAbout the Presenter: Deidra Somerville, M.S.W., CFRE, is currently Director of Research and Sponsored Programs at Roosevelt University. after working as Director of Development for Corporate and Foundation Relations for Roosevelt University. Prior to her tenure at Roosevelt, she worked as Senior Grant Developer for the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA), where she was responsible for leading the grant development team to secure resources from corporations, foundations, and public sector funding sources to benefit the residents of public and assisted housing. Somerville has worked on behalf of Chicago area municipal and non-profit organizations in fundraising and program management since her arrival to the windy city in 1998.
