About this session:  This workshop will explore the value and importance of recruiting and retaining a diverse group of board of directors. Several scenarios and exercises will be used to highlight challenges and best practices. Lastly, attendees will leave with a rough sketch of a recruitment plan for new board members.  

Learning Objectives:
1. Gain a greater understanding of the business case/rationale for a diverse board of directors
2. Understand ways to define diversity, inclusion, and equity with respect to board representation goals
3. Identify how to source and retain board members that hold various social identities

About the Presenter: Janine HillPhD, MPH, ACC is the president of Soar Strategies

Janine HillPhD, MPH, ACC is the president of Soar Strategies, a coaching and consulting firm focused on the program, policy, and organizational development of the social good sector. For over 20 years, she has worked in and with nonprofit organizations, of varying sizes and budgets.  In her six-year tenure as the executive director of EverThrive Illinois, a maternal and child health nonprofit organization, the organization more than doubled its revenues, underwent a rebranding initiative, and strengthened private/public partnerships. Janine has recently defended her dissertation on stress measurement in middle/high income women at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) School of Public Health, is a Co-Active Training Institute-trained coach, and has a Certificate of Professional Achievement in Nonprofit Management from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University (NU). She currently teaches “Maternal and Child Health Policy and Advocacy” at UIC. In addition, Janine serves as the chairperson of the board of directors of the McGaw YMCA in Evanston.  When she is not working, she is hanging with her daughter, reading, or running some race in the Chicagoland area.
