About the Session: Did you know that planned giving is one of the most important elements for building a solid fundraising program? In this session, you will learn how to design a planned giving program for your nonprofit, beginning with basic set-up, how (and what) to market, using recognition societies and volunteers, and learning simple descriptions of the best planned gifts to offer in your program.

Join us for a practical and easy-to-understand introduction to the world of planned giving. You will leave with tangible action items you can implement in even the smallest organization.

Who Should Participate: Executive directors, development and fundraising staff

About the Presenter:

Robert Shafis, JD, Territorial Director of Planned Giving at The Salvation Army, has been a successful fundraiser, speaker and attorney for over 30 years. He began working in fundraising with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod Foundation where as senior vice president he and his staff raised over $100 million a year for various ministries. He served as director of planned gifts for the National Alzheimer’s Association, and for Alexian Brothers Health System Foundation. As director of major gift planning at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry, and director of major and planned giving for The Field Museum, Robert participated in multi-million dollar campaigns.  He is now director of planned giving for the Central Territory of The Salvation Army, working with 10 planned giving programs around the Midwest. Robert has spoken to many national and local groups about planned giving, estate planning, charitable tax issues, and the process of fundraising, and he teaches major and planned giving at North Park University.
